This is another one of those answers to a question that never needed to be asked in the first place. The quality of the steel and the shape of the blade are both poor, and the extra long handle has no real purpose whatsoever. As for it's ability to be used as a spear, no one in any sort of situation where such a thing might be needed would ever risk their knife in such a manner. Whittle a point onto your spear shaft and keep the knife for its intended purpose. Or, if you feel that you simply MUST have a knife that will double as a spear head, buy one of the Cold Steel Bushmen models exclusively for that purpose, and keep your REAL knife for cutting.

I have owned this knife for about two years and have been very happy with it. When used as a spear it works great. I have went through several cheap shafts, but the blade has held strong. I haven't had any problems with chipping or bending which is often a problem with knives meant for throwing and sticking. The reason for four stars and not five is the cheap handle that comes with it. I only use it when storing the knife to keep the inside of it protected. However, I didn't, and I don't think many people who look at it expect to use it as a knife. The blade is obviously designed for throwing, not stabbing or cutting. Had it been sold without a handle and simply as a well built spear head that can attach to any generic mop/broom handle it would definitely have received five stars from me. Oh, just to clarify, it is built for throwing as a spear not a throwing knife.
